Systeme.io alternatives — what replaces it and when switching pays
Systeme.io is a package in which email is one part. People switch away from it when the rest of the package goes unused, when the free plan’s single automation rule runs out, or when the list grows large — and each of the three points to a different tool.
Systeme.io is not an email tool with extras bolted on. It is a package in which email is one part alongside funnels, landing pages, online courses and affiliate management. That is why an alternative is rarely sought because of price — the price is among the lowest in the comparison. It is sought when the rest of the package goes unused or when one of the free plan’s limits comes up.
The short answer
- When you only need email
EmailOctopus
The free plan carries up to 2,500 subscribers and paid starts at €9 a month — the price includes no funnels or course platform you never open.
- When the package has to be replaced as a package
GetResponse
Webinars and sales funnels in the same price, data in Poland and unlimited sending on every paid plan.
- When the list grew large
Brevo
A 10,000-contact list costs €28/month at two newsletters a month, while Systeme.io’s Webinar plan asks $47/month.
Systeme.io and six alternatives
Prices are monthly prices excluding VAT, read from the services’ own price lists on 3 September 2026. For each we took the cheapest paid plan that supports that list size. Systeme.io’s column is in dollars, because it is the only service compared that does not sell in euros.

Prices exclude VAT, billed monthly unless stated otherwise.(ad) = ad link
- The price is the monthly price of the cheapest paid plan at that list size. The Free plan column shows when you do not have to pay.
- EmailOctopus and ActiveCampaign: the price list only shows the monthly price on annual billing. Monthly billing costs more.
- GetResponse and ActiveCampaign: the smallest list sold is 1,000 contacts, so the 500-contact column shows that price.
Systeme.io is also one of the services that pay us a commission — and this page’s recommendations lead past it. The basis at every point is a figure that has been read, not the commission. How ad links affect the content.
Three situations where switching pays
Systeme.io is not a bad tool, and this page does not claim it is. It is the wrong tool for three situations, and they are worth recognising in your own use before you compare prices.
- You only use the email part of the package. Funnels, the course platform and landing pages are in the price whether or not you open them. A narrower tool does the same list cheaper.
- The free plan’s automation rule ran out. The free plan’s limit is not 2,000 contacts but one automation rule, one course and three funnels. A second automation costs $17 a month.
- The list grew large. The 10,000-contact Webinar plan is $47 a month. Brevo handles the same list for €28 when the newsletter goes out twice a month.
If none of these applies to you, the bottom line is honestly this: stay with Systeme.io. An all-in-one package on one bill is genuinely cheaper than three specialised tools side by side.
What the same list costs at a narrower tool
Price is often compared by plan names, although the only comparable figure is list size. Below are the same three list sizes at four tools.
| Contacts | Systeme.io | EmailOctopus | Brevo | MailerLite |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 500 | Free plan, 2,000 contacts | Free plan, 2,500 subscribers | €7/mo | €11/mo |
| 2,500 | $17/mo | €16/mo | €21/mo | €29/mo |
| 10,000 | $47/mo | €36/mo | €28/mo | €79/mo |

Read from the services’ own price lists (Systeme.io, EmailOctopus, Brevo, MailerLite) on 3 September 2026, excluding VAT. Systeme.io’s figure is the Startup and Webinar plan price in dollars. EmailOctopus’s figure is the monthly price on annual billing. Brevo’s row assumes two newsletters a month, because its price follows sending volume rather than list size. MailerLite’s free plan is 250 subscribers, so 500 names are already paid.
The direction turns as the list grows. At a small list Systeme.io is free where MailerLite is not, but at 10,000 names Brevo clearly undercuts it. The turning point is between 5,000 and 10,000 contacts and depends on whether you use the funnels. Dollar billing adds its own imprecision to this: there is no euro price list, so the bank’s rate comes on top and the monthly cost cannot be budgeted to the cent.
What replaces Systeme.io in which situation
- You only use the email part of the package → EmailOctopus: the free plan carries up to 2,500 subscribers and the cheapest paid plan is €9 a month. Try it free (ad)
- The free plan’s single automation rule ran out → MailerLite: automations are included in the cheapest paid plan, and forms and landing pages come in the same price. Try it free
- You need webinars and funnels → GetResponse: webinars are built in and sending is unlimited on every paid plan. Try it free
- The list is large but the newsletter goes out rarely → Brevo: the price follows sending volume rather than list size, so 10,000 names cost €28 a month at two newsletters. Try it free
- You need conditional paths and scoring → ActiveCampaign: conditional content starts on the Plus plan and lead scoring on the Pro plan — Systeme.io’s Startup gives ten automation rules without branching. Try it free
The free plan runs out at the automation rule, not at contacts
Systeme.io’s free plan is the widest in the comparison measured by sending volume: 2,000 contacts and sending is not capped at all. You can therefore write to the whole list as often as you like. The limit comes up elsewhere — one automation rule, one online course, one tag and three funnels.
The free plan is therefore enough until you need a second automation — and that moment usually comes when the first one has proved it works. There are two options: $17 a month for the Startup plan, or a move to a tool where automations are included in the cheapest paid plan. The other wide free plan in the comparison is EmailOctopus’s (2,500 subscribers, 10,000 emails a month, the service’s branding in the emails); the five free plans’ limits side by side: free email marketing.
Systeme.io does not publish its contact counting rule
The bill is set by contact count, but what “contact” means varies: the unsubscribed and hard-bounced either count toward the plan limit or do not. The difference shows on the bill only six months later.
| Tool | Basis for the price | Does an unsubscribed contact count toward the limit | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Systeme.io | Number of contacts | Not read | the provider’s own help page |
| EmailOctopus | Number of contacts | No | the provider’s own help page, read 5 September 2026 |
| Brevo | Sending volume | Not applicable to this model | the provider’s own help page, read 3 September 2026 |
| MailerLite | Number of contacts | No | the provider’s own help page, read 5 September 2026 |
← scroll →
The rules are read from the providers’ own help pages. “Not read” means the rule could not be opened in the original source — we do not guess it in either direction.
- Systeme.io. The plan limits are contact counts (free plan 2,000, Startup 5,000, Webinar 10,000). All nine contact-management articles in the help centre were read on 5 September 2026: none of them says which contact statuses count toward the plan limit. The guides advise cleaning the list, but the counting rule is not published. So we claim nothing either way until it can be read or has been asked from support.
- EmailOctopus. Unsubscribed contacts do not count toward the limit, nor do hard bounces and spam complaints, which are marked as unsubscribed automatically. Contacts awaiting double opt-in do not count either. One trap: the same address is counted separately for every list — an address on six lists is six contacts.
- Brevo. The price is set by monthly sending volume rather than contact count, so the question of counting unsubscribed contacts does not apply to Brevo the way it does to the others. The flip side is that the same list costs more the more often you write to it.
- MailerLite. The limit counts subscribers in Active status; unsubscribed and bounced do not count. One trap in the billing period: the period is counted cumulatively, so an address that was active at any point in the period counts toward the limit until the end of the period, even if you delete it immediately. Cleaning the list shows on the bill only in the next period.
Systeme.io’s row is empty for a reason: the help centre’s nine contact-management articles were gone through on 5 September 2026 and none of them says which contact statuses count toward the plan limit. We claim nothing either way until it can be read. EmailOctopus is the clearest here in the comparison: the unsubscribed do not count toward the limit, but the same address on six lists is six contacts.
There is no deliverability measurement either way
We do not measure deliverability ourselves. Read from the help pages, Systeme.io handles the basics — authentication, bounces and complaints removed automatically, purchased lists banned — but points record checking and list cleaning to external tools and offers no meter, dedicated IP or deliverability team.
| Tool | Latest | Average | Range | Spread (pp) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| MailerLite | 89.8% | 90.9% | 77.6–98.0% | 20.4 |
| Brevo | 88.3% | 82.7% | 67.7–96.3% | 28.6 |

Tooltester ended the series with the January 2024 round and explained why in August 2026: seed lists proved unreliable and providers started optimising for them. The figures are therefore history, not a measurement of current deliverability.
Source: Tooltester deliverability test, 12 rounds 8/2017–1/2024. About 80 seed addresses, 28 providers, shared IP addresses. Average across all platforms in the latest round 83.1%. Average and range calculated from the published rounds.
Deliverability features from the help docs
Eight points read from each provider’s own help pages on 13 September 2026. This replaces percentages as a buying basis: a feature can be checked and dated, a seed-list result no longer can. Every cell links to the article it was read from.

Yes = the help page describes the feature. No = the help page says it is absent or points to an external tool. — = not found in the help pages; that does not mean the feature is absent.
If inbox placement is the reason to switch, the closest alternative is MailerLite: “Clean up inactive” cleans out the inactive in the app, and a dedicated IP and a deliverability team open up from 50,000 weekly emails. A large part of deliverability is still the sender’s own responsibility and moves with you when you switch: what Gmail and Yahoo require of senders.
What you lose by switching
Systeme.io’s price includes whole products that narrower tools do not have. Four disappear the moment you move:
- Sales funnels and landing pages. At MailerLite forms and landing pages are included in the price and GetResponse has sales funnels, but the other tools compared have neither.
- Online courses with payment handling. No other tool compared does this. A separate course platform typically costs more than the whole of Systeme.io.
- Affiliate programme management. If you sell your own product through partners, this is its own subscription elsewhere.
- Unlimited sending on the free plan too. Among the alternatives only GetResponse has unlimited sending, and it lacks a free plan entirely.
The integration library, on the other hand, is not lost: Systeme.io publishes no integration directory at all, and payments run through Stripe and PayPal. That is the logical consequence of the all-in-one model, not neglect — but it also means there is nothing to lose on that front in a switch.
How to migrate without the list suffering
- Export the contacts as a CSV file and include the subscription date and source — consent has to be demonstrable afterwards.
- Separate course and funnel customers from newsletter subscribers. In the same account they are one contact list; in the new tool they are two different audiences.
- Decide what to do with the funnels and courses. If they stay at Systeme.io, the free plan carries them up to 2,000 contacts — so switching does not necessarily mean closing the account.
- Clean out the unsubscribed and hard bounces before importing: the new tool’s counting rule can be read, Systeme.io’s cannot.
- Authenticate the sender domain in the new service (SPF, DKIM and DMARC) before the first send.
- Rebuild the automations before you close the old one. The free plan’s single rule is quick to rebuild; ten Startup-plan rules are not.
The data protection side of the move: email marketing and GDPR. Data location does not change in this switch if you end up with an EU alternative — it changes only with Mailchimp and ActiveCampaign.
For whom Systeme.io is still the right choice
In three situations switching would be a mistake. You sell a course or coaching: funnels, a course platform and payment handling in the same price is an offer no other tool compared makes. The list is under 2,000 names and you write to it often: a free plan with no sending limit is among the widest in the comparison. Or you are starting now and do not yet know what you need — one sufficient tool is a cheaper way to find out than three subscriptions.
In other cases switching is settled by one question: how many parts of the package did you actually open last month. If the answer is one, you are paying for four.
