Email, SMS and CRM from a European provider

The review is based on the provider’s own sources: prices from the pricing page, data location from the privacy policy and billing rules from the help pages — each one dated.

Overview

Brevo

Best when: A fairly large list that is emailed rarely — or a business that wants email and text messages from one place

Not for you if: You email the whole list often: the price follows sending volume, not list size

Free plan: 300 emails/day · from €7/mo (500 contacts)

Start free — 300 emails/day

Good

  • Priced by sending volume, not contact count — the cheapest in the comparison at 10,000 contacts
  • French company, servers in the EU
  • CRM and transactional emails in the same tool

Bad

  • The free plan’s 300-emails-a-day limit restricts campaigns
  • Frequent sending raises the price quickly
  • Marketing automation and A/B testing only from the Standard plan

Prices exclude VAT, billed monthly unless stated otherwise.(ad) = ad link

  • The price is the monthly price of the cheapest paid plan at that list size. The Free plan column shows when you do not have to pay.
  • EmailOctopus and ActiveCampaign: the price list only shows the monthly price on annual billing. Monthly billing costs more.
  • GetResponse and ActiveCampaign: the smallest list sold is 1,000 contacts, so the 500-contact column shows that price.

What the price covers: The price is set by monthly sending volume, not contact count: 5,000 emails = €7 (500 contacts), 15,000 = €21 (2,500 contacts), 20,000 = €28 (500,000 contacts). That is why a 10,000-contact list is unusually cheap at Brevo — as long as sending stays at 20,000, i.e. two newsletters a month. Annual billing −10%.

How contacts are counted

The price is set by monthly sending volume rather than contact count, so the question of counting unsubscribed contacts does not apply to Brevo the way it does to the others. The flip side is that the same list costs more the more often you write to it.

Deliverability

Deliverability is the share of sent messages that reaches the inbox instead of the spam folder. The figures come from Tooltester’s test series, which ended in January 2024 — they describe 2017–2024, not the present. The average and the range are calculated across all rounds.

Deliverability

  • Latest round88.3%
  • Average of 12 rounds82.7%
  • Range67.7–96.3%
  • Standard deviation9.3

The most volatile in the series: a 28.6-point range and two rounds below 70%. A single good reading says little.

Tooltester ended the series with the January 2024 round and explained why in August 2026: seed lists proved unreliable and providers started optimising for them. The figures are therefore history, not a measurement of current deliverability.

Source: Tooltester deliverability test, 12 rounds 8/2017–1/2024. About 80 seed addresses, 28 providers, shared IP addresses. Average across all platforms in the latest round 83.1%. Average and range calculated from the published rounds.

Deliverability features from the help docs

Eight points read from each provider’s own help pages on 13 September 2026. This replaces percentages as a buying basis: a feature can be checked and dated, a seed-list result no longer can. Every cell links to the article it was read from.

Who Brevo suits

Best when: A fairly large list that is emailed rarely — or a business that wants email and text messages from one place

Not for you if: You email the whole list often: the price follows sending volume, not list size

The price follows sending volume, not list size

This is Brevo’s single most important difference from the others, and it decides both who the service is cheap for and who it is expensive for. You pay for monthly sending volume, and the contact quota comes with it.

Emails per monthStarterStandardContacts
5,000€7/mo€15/mo500
10,000€14/mo€29/mo1,500
15,000€21/mo€41/mo2,500

50,000€47/mo€79/mo500,000
100,000€70/mo€129/mo500,000

From the price list on 3 September 2026, monthly billing. Annual billing −10%.

There is one point in the table worth reading twice: at 20,000 emails the contact quota jumps from 2,500 to 500,000. It means a 10,000-name list costs €28 a month at Brevo, while MailerLite asks €79 and ActiveCampaign €149 for the same list. The condition is that 20,000 emails are enough — for a 10,000-name list that is two newsletters a month.

Turn the same thing around and the advantage disappears: if you send to that same 10,000-name list weekly, you need 40,000 emails and the price is €41. For a monthly sender Brevo is the cheapest in the comparison; for a weekly sender it is second cheapest: only EmailOctopus (€36) comes in under €41.

The free plan’s daily limit is a real restriction

On the free plan you may send 300 emails a day, about 9,000 a month. The figure sounds big, but the limit is daily: a campaign sent to the whole list at once stops after 300 recipients. The free plan therefore suits drip emails and transactional emails, not campaigns.

Two extra fees that do not show in the table

  • Removing the Brevo logo on the Starter plan costs €8.10 a month. On Standard it is included. If you compare Starter with the competition, add this when the service’s branding is not acceptable.
  • The Sales Essentials sales tool, €26.08 a month separately. Brevo’s CRM side is therefore not entirely included in the email plans.

What Standard adds on top of Starter

Starter is a mailing list: editor, templates, segmentation, forms and basic reports. Standard adds marketing automation, A/B testing, send time optimisation, website tracking, heatmaps and one landing page. If you plan to build an automation path, the price is in practice the Standard column, not Starter’s.

Where the data is stored

Brevo is a French company and stores the data in the EU. For an EU buyer this is the most straightforward case in the comparison: both the contracting party and the data centre are in the EU, so no third-country transfer basis is needed.

Integrations

Brevo does not state the total number of integrations in its own app marketplace, so we give it no figure. By name it mentions Shopify, WordPress, Stripe and Zapier, among others. The services that do publish a figure line up like this: ActiveCampaign over 1,000 apps, Mailchimp 300+, GetResponse 170+ and MailerLite 130+.

The figures are the services’ own and not comparable one to one — some count connectors that work through Zapier, some only native ones. The practical question is always the same: is there a ready-made connector for your e-commerce platform. Figures read from the services’ own integration pages on 5 September 2026: ActiveCampaign, Mailchimp, GetResponse and MailerLite.

How Brevo compares with the alternatives

  • At a large list: 10,000 contacts cost €28 a month at Brevo, €79 at MailerLite and €149 at ActiveCampaign. The condition is a moderate sending pace. The same comparison head-to-head: MailerLite vs Brevo.
  • At a small list: at 2,500 contacts EmailOctopus is cheaper (€16 against €21) and free up to that list size as well. Comparison: Brevo vs EmailOctopus.
  • Against a free plan: Systeme.io gives 2,000 contacts with no sending limit, Brevo an unlimited list but 300 emails a day. Which limit comes first: Systeme.io vs Brevo.
  • On channels: Brevo is the only one in the comparison where email, text messages, WhatsApp and transactional emails come from the same account. For an online shop that is often a weightier reason than price.

What we do not know yet

The figures above were read from the service’s own price list and privacy policy, and they are dated. On usability and support response time we say nothing: they cannot be read from the documentation, and a guess would harm the reader more than a missing fact. The deliverability figures above were measured by a third party, not by us. The full method →

Frequently asked questions

How does Brevo’s pricing work?
You pay for monthly sending volume, not list size. Starter costs €7 at five thousand emails, €21 at fifteen thousand and €28 at twenty thousand. The contact quota comes with the volume, and at 20,000 emails it jumps from 2,500 to 500,000 — which is why a large but rarely emailed list is unusually cheap at Brevo.
Is Brevo the cheapest for a large list?
Yes, if you send at a moderate pace. A 10,000-contact list costs €28 per month at Brevo, while MailerLite asks €79 and ActiveCampaign €149. The condition is that 20,000 emails are enough, i.e. two newsletters a month. For a weekly sender the same list costs €41, and the advantage shrinks.
What do you get on Brevo’s free plan?
300 emails a day, about 9,000 a month. List size is not limited, but the limit is daily: a campaign sent to the whole list at once stops after 300 recipients. The free plan therefore suits drip emails and transactional emails, not campaigns.
Does Brevo have hidden costs?
Two that do not show in the price table. Removing the Brevo logo costs €8.10 per month on the Starter plan (on Standard it is included), and the Sales Essentials sales tool costs €26.08 per month separately. Marketing automation and A/B testing are also on the Standard plan, not on Starter.
Where is Brevo’s data stored?
In the EU. Brevo is a French company, so both the contracting party and the data centre are in the EU, and no third-country transfer basis is needed. It is the most straightforward case in the comparison for data protection documentation.
Who is Brevo not for?
Anyone who emails the same list often. Volume-based pricing then turns expensive, and a contact-based model is more predictable. Rule of thumb: multiply subscribers by sends per month and take that figure to Brevo’s price list before you decide.
